Inspired by Film (and TV) // Day 4 1960s

Photos: Pinterest.com

Although I've never seen the 1960s-early70s show That Girl, I've seen pictures of Marlo Thomas' character Ann Marie and her impeccable style. She seems to like clothes with clean lines, turtlenecks, straight skirts that hit above the knee (sometimes far above the knee), and the military jacket of course. My favorite aspect of her style is her hair (Is that a wig?), but I didn't attempt that!

Denim skirt: Target
Black triple buckle flats: Payless

The jacket was a no-brainer, with its double-breasted brass buttons. I chose this pink sweater underneath because of both the bold color and the round jewel neckline that covered the collarbones (seemed 60s). The skirt was a toughie; Anne Marie probably would have had a matching skirt, but as I don't, I went with the denim skirt for its straight cut and neutral color in the same color family as the jacket. Ann Marie is a minimalist when it comes to jewelry, and I felt the same way when I looked this outfit over; couldn't think of anything that would add to, not detract from, the look. As far as accessories are concerned, sunglassess would have worked! (Why did I not think of that earlier?)

I know I'm posting these so late and out of chronological order, but I also recreated the fifties look (Lucille Ball's polka dots!) and the fantasy look (Susan Pevensie's battle outfit... very modified!) so be looking for those soon! (The button in the sidebar that says "TV/Movie Inspired Fashion Event"- that will take you to Bramblewood Fashion, the host site for this fun event if you want to join in. Today is officially the last day, but whatever- I'm still doing it, and the linky should be open for a few more days!)

Printed Lace and Boyfriends

Not talkin' about the male human type, the cuffed jeans and comfy sweater type!

And this jacket is actually a sweater with a notched collar and style lines. It almost looks like a blazer, but it's more flattering without being fitted and much easier to move around in. The lacey look and the hoop earrings add a touch of femininity.

I was wondering, do boyfriend jeans have an equivalent skirt? A boyfriend skirt- that just sounds weird, but you know what I mean. What sort of skirt can work in any sort of situation that a ultra-relaxed, worn-in, cuffed-at-just-the-right-length pair of  jeans does? If you were going to wear a skirt, what would you pair with this top and sweater?

And I'm so excited for this:

Ashley at Bramblewood Fashion is hosting a week-long fashion event based on a different era or genre every day. I've never seen most of the movies and shows she'll be referencing, but she says she hasn't seen all of them either; we can still look at the images and get inspiration from the fabulous TV and movie set wardrobes. Who else wants to join? It's gonna be fun!

From My Own Closet: Glittery Dolman Sleeve Sweater and Jeans

Sweater, Cami, and Necklace: LOFT Outlet
Jeans: Grane from Macy's, with style alterations
Shoes: Steinmart
Scarf: Made by Me

We're finally getting some sweater weather here in SE Texas. It was a lovely 45 degrees when I walked out the door this morning! By the time we got out of church... different story.

I love this sweater for many reasons. First, it has a roomy fit that's not too clingy but not too baggy. A lot of tops of this style have a too wide neckline or are sheer or have some other fault. Not the case here! After a few wears and washes, the neckline does seem to have gotten a little bigger, so I wear a cami underneath. You can't really see it in the photos unfortunately, but the sweater has gold metallic threads throughout, making it extra special. It has a subtle shine appropriate for anywhere.

I picked the scarf for the blood orange color. That with the gold is a color combo I've seen a lot in store displays lately and I'm really loving.

The jeans were originally flared when I got them; for some reason, flared jeans have a little more ease where you need it than skinnies do. Anyway, I left the upper thighs and above intact and narrowed the legs below the knee to make skinny jeans. I love having jeans now that can be worn with boots!

I'm so glad I've finally completed another blog post. It's been two weeks since my last one, and I was getting afraid maybe blogging was another short-term interest that I wouldn't really ever get in the habit of. Doesn't it seem as though every time you want to put together a post, you don't have time, or it gets dark before you get around to it, or your sister with the camera is busy? Or maybe it's just me? I've still been keeping up with a lot of the blogs I follow, and I must say, I really feel like the novice I am right now.

If you have any comments or suggestions remotely related to this post, I'd like to hear about it. I so appreciate all of you who read, comment, and follow my little blog.
