30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 9

Yesterday I was off work most of the day. Since I was just lounging around the house, I took the opportunity to experiment with my 30x30 items. The pictures were taken by the 9-year-old that my sister babysits. (She, the 9-year-old, suggested as tactfully as she could that it would "make more sense" with jeans.) I've seen long simple tops over straight skirts before, and with what I had, gave it my best shot. Maybe the colors should be more similar or more neutral, or the hem shouldn't be so uneven, or maybe I just need to be taller? Any suggestions other than jeans?

What I'm Wearing:
2) White tee- Marshall's
9) Green asymmetrical tunic tank- Made by me
18) Knit denim skirt- Made by me
30) Brown flats- Target
Fused glass pendant made by me, blue bracelet from LOFT, and wooden bracelet from India

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 8

I hope you ladies had a wonderful, refreshing Sunday. I caught a few pictures of my outfit as the sun was going down. After church and lunch with my family, I had to go to work, so again, I wore something that could  carry me through the entire day. My church has a very casual atmosphere. I felt more dressed up than 95 % of the people in my congregation today.

I'm taking a class at church right now on how to assess how and where you should be serving God's people. We call it "SHAPE," which stands for "Spiritual Gifts - Heart - Abilities - Personality - Experiences." All of those things together are the resources God has given each of us to do the work He has planned for us. If you have the opportunity to take such a class, I suggest it!

Today, while we were discussing the different personality types (Choleric, Melancholy, Sanguine, Phlegmatic) the teacher mentioned that Christ displayed all of those personality types at one point or another. He didn't fit into the personality types as we think of them because He was perfect and did exactly what was necessary and appropriate at any given time. Then another person in the class said that we are told to become like Christ, and as our minds and hearts are transformed, we might display more and more of the positive elements of the different personalities- just like Christ- or less and less of the negative qualities of our natural personality. I thought that was a great insight. I can't wait for the day when Christ's work in me and all of us is finally completed and we can be exactly like He originally created us to be!

What I'm Wearing:
1) White ruffle blouse- Kohl's
17) Zebra print skirt- Made by me

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 7

I'm going to let you all in on a really candid photo shoot from this afternoon. For one reason or another, not one photo turned out the way I wanted. Overexposed, too dark, my feet got cut off, or I was just doing something really strange. (Come to think of it, my family was in a hurry to leave, and I told my sister to just take the snapshots, it didn't matter what they looked like. I guess she thought I meant it!) Promise not to laugh, 'k? (I laughed, but that doesn't mean you get to!)

Hope you got the idea of what my outfit looks like, at least! I've been taking the challenge of taking 30 items of clothing to make 30 outfits in 30 days. I started Sunday, and I've done it for 7 days straight now. (Days 4, 5, and 6, are either still on the camera or, ahem, need to be recreated. You'll see them eventually.) The hardest part for me so far is really just getting the pictures taken and blogging about it. What I need is a Blog 30 Times in 30 Days Challenge.

What I'm Wearing:
3) Blush pink lace tee- LOFT Outlet
21) Gray trousers- Kohl's
23) White denim jacket- LOFT Outlet
29) Wedge sandals- Famous Footwear
Forever 21 belt, Walmart bangles, LOFT Outlet necklace

30x30 Challenge : Day 3

This outfit carried me from work, to working at home, to shopping.

I like this color family: navy, robin's egg blue, seafoam...

And yellow! I like this pair of flats because they feel like slippers, especially after wearing heels for a few hours. These are the first elasticated flats I've ever had. I've got narrow heels, and thanks to the elastic, these shoes conform to the shape of my foot and never feel as though they're slipping off.

They also revealed to me how much I love material things. On the second day that I wore them, I was carrying something and kicked a heavy door open with the side of my foot as it started to close on me. Only the door went right over my foot. I nearly cried. It hurt, but what grieved me more was the deep scratch it made on my shoe. I had far more important things to think about than my shoes, but I nearly let the scratch ruin my evening. Then I got upset because I couldn't make myself stop caring about something as simple as a scratched, inexpensive shoe.

I was going to go somewhere with that, but it's getting late now, and I can't think any more. If you've ever felt the same way, I'm sure you can derive your own spiritual lesson from that.

The shoes, by the way, are still wearable, comfortable, loveable- and look like new if you take blog photos from the right angle.

What I'm Wearing:
25) Light blue cardigan- LOFT Outlet
26) Polka dot dress- LOFT Outlet
28) Yellow flats- LOFT Outlet
LOFT Outlet cami, LOFT Outlet woven necklace, and sailor knot bracelet made by me.
Outfit #3 Never Worn Before

Sometimes I don't realize how many LOFT things I'm wearing till I make a blog post about it! Maybe I should rename this blog "How to Wear LOFT Clothes" and see if I get more views?

I'm starting to say really strange things now... I need some sleep. As some of you know from the comments I left, I enjoyed seeing all of your outfits today! Can't wait to link up with you all again tomorrow!

30x30 Challenge : Day 2

I knew I'd want something comfortable and cool today, because I spent a lot of it outdoors in the 80+-degree weather. My animal-loving sister's birthday is later this week, but we celebrated today with a trip to the zoo, followed by a picnic in the park and fully loaded ice cream sundaes at home!

When I was in high school, I bought this vest from the clearance rack at a western wear store to be part of a cowgirl costume. It looks and feels high quality, and ever since, I've wanted to wear it as part of my everyday look, without looking like a cowgirl. (To clarify: I am a Texan. Quite a different thing.) What do you think? Does this work?

This is Outfit #2 That I Have Never Worn Before (at least not with the vest). Two down, 18 more to go!

What I'm Wearing:
6) Floral peasant tee- LOFT Outlet
13) Polished denim bermuda shorts- LOFT Outlet
22) Denim vest- ?
30) Brown flats- Target
LOFT Outlet elephant necklace, wooden necklace (worn as a bracelet) from India, and de Lacy purse (accessories not included in the 30)

I'm linking up to the 30x30 Remix Challenge at Bramblewood Fashion!

Did you know that color is the first thing that you notice about any object that you see? Some people, me for instance, especially respond to color; often the color the one thing that really makes me like an article of clothing or an accessory. Incorporating a novel color into your outfit is one of the easiest ways to make a modest outfit look contemporary. Twice a year, the Pantone color authority releases a review of the top ten colors for the season. This is after they analyze the trends on the runways at New York Fashion Week. One of those trending colors for Spring and Summer of 2013 is a beautiful yellow they have named "lemon zest."

This week I'm going to be doing a mini-series on this cheerful color. Here's some inspiration from the runway, the street, and lookbooks for wearing yellow this spring.

So, what's the rest of the mini-series look like? Tomorrow I'll show you some modest clothes and accessories in lemon and other yellows. Wednesday, I'll make some dream outfits on Polyvore showing you how you can wear a little or a lot of yellow depending on your complexion. Thursday, I'll show you how I wear yellow in a way that becomes me. But not just me. It helps to see how lots of real girls with different skin tones wear this color. If you have an outfit with a dash of yellow that you want to share, send it to fashionedanddesigned (at) gmail (dot) com, and I might feature you in Thursday's post!

Sound good? What wardrobe theme would you like to see me cover next?
