30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 9

Yesterday I was off work most of the day. Since I was just lounging around the house, I took the opportunity to experiment with my 30x30 items. The pictures were taken by the 9-year-old that my sister babysits. (She, the 9-year-old, suggested as tactfully as she could that it would "make more sense" with jeans.) I've seen long simple tops over straight skirts before, and with what I had, gave it my best shot. Maybe the colors should be more similar or more neutral, or the hem shouldn't be so uneven, or maybe I just need to be taller? Any suggestions other than jeans?

What I'm Wearing:
2) White tee- Marshall's
9) Green asymmetrical tunic tank- Made by me
18) Knit denim skirt- Made by me
30) Brown flats- Target
Fused glass pendant made by me, blue bracelet from LOFT, and wooden bracelet from India

Susan, Queen in Narnia // Inspired by Film Day 6 Fantasy and Day 7 Favorite Movie

Photos: Pinterest
Ever since I first read the Chronicles of Narnia series when I was in elementary school, I've wanted to be a queen in Narnia. Disney's 2005 The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is my favorite fantasy film and my favorite movie all-around (of course those of you who read my Day 1 post know that I don't have many to pick from. Bit of trivia: This is one of only two films that I've seen in theaters!).

I was inspired by Susan Pevensie's battle attire and armor in Prince Caspian and the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The brown shades, the V-neck, and leather-look belt and necklace were all pulled from her outfits. I don't know if the overall look is that reminiscent of Susan, but it looks fantastical, maybe fairy-like, in its own way.

Tiered brown skirt: Target
Taupe faux skin belt: Thrifted
Necklaces: Gifts (WalMart and Kohl's, I think)
White T-strap sandals with gold accents: Off Broadway Shoes

Much thanks to Ashley at Bramblewood Fashion for hosting this fashion link-up. I had a lot of fun. It helped me to find four or five new outfit combinations that I've never tried before, which is saying something, since I don't have that many clothes, and I already consider myself pretty good at mixing and matching. Actively seeking out inspiration can do amazing things for your creativity!

From My Own Closet: Boho

 Vest: Topshop via Plato's Closet
Tunic: Made by me
Jeans: Loft Outlet
Boots: Don't even remember, DSW maybe

I adore this faux fur vest. I've been wearing it almost every day this week since winters are so short here and I want to get as much use out of it as I can! Probably how people in northern climates feel about their summer clothes? You will most likely be seeing more of it soon in any case.

Note to self: Get some close-ups next time and not just full-outfit ones. My gracious photographer (my little sis "K") is really quite talented, but it was a rather spontaneous and hurried photo shoot and she was getting cold. :) If she doesn't start a blog herself, I should post some of her adorable squirrel photos sometime.

Had a good weekend so far? I've mostly been cleaning the house. And along the way I learned way more about the inner workings of our vacuum cleaner than you all would care to hear right now. Fixing broken appliances, yard work, etc. has always been my dad's job at our house, but lately I've been purposely learning how to do different things in case I'm out on my own at some point or if I marry someone who expects me to do some of these things! (For some reason I get excited about this sort of thing. I've actually got a list. =) What are some of the things you all think every woman should know how to do herself?
