30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 18

What I'm Wearing:
4) Red peasant tee- LOFT Outlet (worn under the crochet top)
7) Orange crochet top- LOFT Outlet
10) Chambray shirt- LOFT Outlet
18) Knit denim skirt- made by me
29) Wedge sandals- Famous Footwear
LOFT Outlet necklace (Yup, it's my favorite, it goes with everything!) and sunglasses

I'm thankful for days off so that I can wear stuff like this. Although I like to dress up for some events and non-events... like work, I'm completely at home in something slouchy (some would say sloppy...) and uber-casual. I feel free to do whatever I want all day- even if it's stay at home and sew or party plan or read the afternoon away.

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 13 & Day 15

Half-way through the 30x30 Remix Challenge! I've got two days to show you, and then I'll be all caught up! Whoopee! Let's start with Day 13, Friday:

What I'm Wearing:
12) Black peplum shirt- Kohl's
15) Tribal print skirt- JC Penney
28) Yellow ballet flats- LOFT Outlet
LOFT Outlet necklace and Kohl's belt (This is actually the shirt it came with. I wear the belt all the time with everything except this shirt!)

Sometime I'll get a close-up of the shirt. It's not a true peplum, but it has the same flared shape at the hem, because it has a bunch of pleats at the hips. Let's make it clear: Peplums do not look good on me, but I got around it this time by tucking the shirt into this skirt!

Day 15:

What I'm Wearing:
10) Chambray shirt- LOFT Outlet
15) Tribal print skirt- JC Penney
28) Yellow ballet flats- LOFT Outlet
Kohl's cami, LOFT Outlet necklace, Kohl's necklace, and Kohl's belt

Very similar to what I wore Friday. When I stumble upon a look I like, I just don't see the point in wearing anything else! Both these outfits have a safari feel, don't they?

I did a count of everything I've worn so far to see what items need a little more love in the second half of the challenge:

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 5 & Day 6

Here's a flashback to what I wore Thursday and Friday of last week.

Day 5:

What I'm Wearing:
8) Green pinstripe shirt- Walmart
20) Boyfriend jeans- LOFT Outlet
25) Light blue cardigan- LOFT Outlet
28) Yellow ballet flats- LOFT Outlet
Vintage pearl necklace and butterfly necklace made by me (You can see them better below)

Day 6:

What I'm Wearing
2) White tee- Marshall's
20) Boyfriend jeans- LOFT Outlet
25) Light blue cardigan- LOFT Outlet
28) Yellow ballet flats- LOFT Outlet
Vintage pearl necklace, LOFT Outlet bracelet and butterfly necklace made by me

Yep, the outfits are nearly identical. But Thursday a front blew through with some cooler than expected weather. I spent most of the day at home in my warm pajamas and then my workout/housecleaning clothes, and I only had to go to work in the evening to process a shipment, so it didn't matter too much what I wore. Since I wore them for less than half a day, it only seemed right to wear them again the following day.

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 14

What I'm Wearing:
5) Burgandy tiered tee- LOFT Outlet
12) Black peplum shirt- Kohl's
14) Blue pencil skirt- Made by me
29) Wedge sandals- Famous Footwear
LOFT Outlet pendant

I took these pictures today before work and before the rain started pouring down. Does anyone else love storms as much as I do? I can't stand drizzly days, but when the rain is pounding the roof, with sharp cracks of thunder and sizzling lightning... it's blissful.

I came so close to cheating today. None of the shoes I picked for the challenge did anything for this outfit. I tried all of them on at least once, and finally went with these. When all else fails, I like at least to look taller!

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 12

What I'm Wearing:
22) Denim vest- ?
27) Maxi dress- Made by me
30) Brown flats- Target
LOFT Outlet tooth necklace

This dress is a delight to wear (if you couldn't tell!). Spinning around in it was a little awkward; generally I'm not a twirly girlie. But if anything makes me want to twirl, it's this! Even walking down the stairs, I like the feeling of it floating and swishing around my ankles. The skirt of the dress is a circle skirt, which I sunburst pleated and gathered, so it has a lot of fabric and wonderful movement.

The lining goes just past my knees, by the way. I don't want anyone to think it's one of those peek-a-boo chiffon skirts. Although I need your opinion on that. I don't go around telling everyone who sees me that there's a lining under this that goes down to my knees.  Normally, I don't twirl around in this or lift up the skirt to any immodest heights, but even so, someone might see that the fabric is semi-sheer around my ankles and get the idea that it's see-through all the way up even though they don't actually see anything. Am I overthinking this, or would it be best to extend the lining all the way down and make sure it's obviously there?

Advance warning: I'm going to try to catch up on my 30x30 posts today. I still haven't posted days 5 and 6, yesterday or today! I think I'll lump those into two posts; I don't want to clog up your feed too much!

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 4

I wore this last Wednesday, when I had to babysit. I might benefit from trying to look more intimidating when I watch children, but I like to wear bright, playful candy colors and bring out the kid in me. I've never met a little girl who didn't want to try on this necklace either; some little boys like to play with it too; amazingly it's still in one piece.

What I'm Wearing:
4) Red peasant tee- LOFT Outlet
19) Tiered brown skirt- Target
30) Brown flats- Target
LOFT Outlet tassle necklace

Speaking of kids, has anyone not seen the Kid Snippets videos on YouTube? Some are funnier than others, but I thought the latest one was hilarious. I can totally see kids I know saying these things.

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 11

What I'm Wearing:
3) Blush pink lace tee- LOFT Outlet
16) Floral skirt- Kohl's
28) Yellow flats- LOFT Outlet
Thrifted enamel bangle (not included in the 30)

It was an absolutely gorgeous day. We're marching steadily into the long Texas summer, but we got a blip of cooler weather today, along with clear blue skies and pure sunlight.

Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
Psalm 33:1

30x30 Remix Challenge : Day 8

I hope you ladies had a wonderful, refreshing Sunday. I caught a few pictures of my outfit as the sun was going down. After church and lunch with my family, I had to go to work, so again, I wore something that could  carry me through the entire day. My church has a very casual atmosphere. I felt more dressed up than 95 % of the people in my congregation today.

I'm taking a class at church right now on how to assess how and where you should be serving God's people. We call it "SHAPE," which stands for "Spiritual Gifts - Heart - Abilities - Personality - Experiences." All of those things together are the resources God has given each of us to do the work He has planned for us. If you have the opportunity to take such a class, I suggest it!

Today, while we were discussing the different personality types (Choleric, Melancholy, Sanguine, Phlegmatic) the teacher mentioned that Christ displayed all of those personality types at one point or another. He didn't fit into the personality types as we think of them because He was perfect and did exactly what was necessary and appropriate at any given time. Then another person in the class said that we are told to become like Christ, and as our minds and hearts are transformed, we might display more and more of the positive elements of the different personalities- just like Christ- or less and less of the negative qualities of our natural personality. I thought that was a great insight. I can't wait for the day when Christ's work in me and all of us is finally completed and we can be exactly like He originally created us to be!

What I'm Wearing:
1) White ruffle blouse- Kohl's
17) Zebra print skirt- Made by me
28) Yellow flats- LOFT Outlet
Kohl's belt (accessories not included in the 30)

Haven't worn this one before either- that's 5 I think.

Inspired by Film (Kinda) // Day 2 1940s

Photo: Emily N.
I wore this for all of 30 minutes yesterday (30 minutes spent figuring out how to use a backyard planter as a tripod and walking back and forth from camera to garage wall to take selfies). The remainder of the day's events included painting a bulletin board and then watching 3 children for 7 hours, activities which call for something other than pearls, a flared jacket, and a nice (borrowed) black skirt. I can't wait to wear this sometime when I can feel fabulous.

I do wish I could pull off a sophisticated expression.

Black trumpet skirt: JC Penney (belongs to my sister)
Tiered burgandy tee: LOFT Outlet
Faux pearl necklace: Etsy (vintage)
Faux pearl and diamond earrings: Claire's

The dark, almost drab colors and all-business look of this outfit remind me of the WWII era. I intended to do a Google images hunt and find a film to pretend this outfit was inspired by, but I was so late getting this up, I didn't really want to take more time doing that. (I'm one of those home school grads who at the age of 22 can still count the real films she's seen on her fingers and toes. Now accecpting movie recommendations!- but only if they're reeeaaalllly clean and can keep me riveted to the screen for the entire duration of the film).

Anne of Green Gables// TV/Movie Inspired Fashion Event Day 1 (1900s-1920s)

Photos c/o Fanpop.com
There's New York Fashion Week, then there's London Fashion Week, and then there's Milan, and Paris, and then there's the TV/Movie Inspired Fashion Blog event *this week* at Bramblewood Fashion. If you're not already familiar, I'll let the hostess, Ashley, explain:

"For each day of the week there will be a set theme for your outfits, you will then take pictures of your outfit and post them on your blog. Once your post is live you will then link-up your post to the link-y on my blog each day. It is alright if you have never seen any of shows/movies I suggest for your outfit inspiration, as some of my suggestions for outfit ideas will be from shows I've never seen myself -- I just like to get outfit inspiration from them."

Sunday's theme was 1900s-1920s, and I went with Anne of Green Gables. I've never seen the movies, but I have read the books. I love Anne's  spunky character- and the smart-looking clothing styles the young people wore then.

I hope I'm not the only girl who has ever resorted to wearing pants to interpret an Anne of Green Gables look. This outfit gave me a lot of trouble at first. I have a severe lack of cameos, peter pan collars, hats, and long skirts in my closet! Quite unlike most fashionable young ladies of about 1913... and 2013. But I'm going to try to get through this fashion event without buying anything new or making anything unless I already have all the supplies. So, besides all the aforementioned things, I noticed a lot of browns, pinks, and whites in the movie wardrobes, as well as lace, pin stripes, plaid, and high buttoned collars. I like to wear tees over this white shirt, but I've never tried buttoning the top button. I think it works in this case, especially with the butterfly pinned near the throat. Usually I wear the butterfly as a pendant, and I just let the slack in the chains drape a little. Altogether I'm happy with the outfit. Even though it's very loosely inspired by Anne of Green Gables, it's a new way of wearing my clothes that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise, and that's being true to the spirit of this event!

Monday's theme is 1940s- almost as difficult for me as this one, but I found a brown houndstooth blazer in my closet that just might work! I hope all of you join in!
