Easy

 Tee : Made by me // Jeans and necklace : LOFT Outlet // Sweater : Target // Scarf : A'gaci // Boots : Steve Madden // Belt : GAP

My favorite outfits are the simple, unpretentious ones. I had a phase when I tried to slam together tops and bottoms and shoes that were going in opposite directions, stylistically speaking. You can find some visual evidence in earlier posts of my blog... Things work out so much better for me when I just go with the flow and not force any of my clothes to be something they're not. Take this outfit for example. All these pieces are basic shapes, unembellished. The boots are even scuffed and the jeans naturally faded from wear (which I really like, by the way. This is the first time I've had a pair of raw denim jeans that has aged so well). Taken alone or together they harmoniously say "casual, laid-back, earthy."

One more thing: Moss green and black make an amazing duo.

Textured

My beautiful sister Heather was wearing an outfit today that contains all the essentials of her personal style: lace, denim, brass beaded jewelry, and a little snatch of what could be seen as a tribal motif in her straw hat. She sticks to what she instinctively likes, and it pronounces her spirited, down-to-earth personality quite well.

Button Down Shirt ~ Three Days ~ Three Ways // Day 2

Cuffed jeans, barely-there sandals, and minimal jewelry for a class day. I'm a pretty low-maintenance girl.

Cherry and Lavender

 One hand on hip...

The other hand on hip...

Both hands on hips...

Pink, purple, and blue- the colors that are never supposed to mix! What do you think? (Not that I'll listen; I love this color clash! It's so joyful-looking!) I have a necklace with pink/red and lavender beads that could tie it all together, but sometimes I just like pure, solid color.

This outfit would look just as good with a long denim skirt as with jeans. I can't wait to sew myself one!

Under and Over

Chambray look shirt and blush pink lace tee: LOFT Outlet
Bootcut jeans: DKNY via consignment shop
Pearl and gold filigree necklace and bracelet: vintage via Etsy
Brown patent leather flats: Famous Footwear
Ornate Brass Earrings: Nature's First Green (Etsy) Similar

Disclaimer: Nature's First Green is my sister's Etsy shop, but I'm not afraid of blatantly advertising for her because she makes some really cute vintage and nature inspired jewelry and candles too. She's new to Etsy; go give her shop some love! Plus you can see what my earrings look like close up!

Last time I wore this lace tee I put it over a crisp white shirt in my Anne of Green Gables look. This time I made the tee the underlayer and wore a lightweight flowy shirt over it. Which do you like more? At first I didn't think I'd like the 3/4 length sleeves extending past the elbow length sleeves, but it doesn't bother me. The tee is fairly close to my skin tone, so it doesn't break up the length of my arm too much. Reversing the order of your layers is a fun way to get more outfits out of your wardrobe!

Black and White

This was my outfit for running errands yesterday. (I got two new pairs of shoes so that you all won't have to see the same ones all the time!). Bear in mind, I'm still perfecting the art of the self-portrait.

White button-up shirt and purple and pink geometric necklace: LOFT Outlet
Black tee: Marshall's
Black bootcut jeans: Zena via cosignment shop
Black heels: Steinmart

I like the top half of this outfit, but I hate seeing head to toe black, especially on myself. I know it's slimming and all, but it's too austere for my tastes and it does not photograph well at all! What would you do for the bottom half?

On another note, I really do love these jeans. They come all the way up to the natural waist, which most likely means they're over 10 years old. But I can sit on the floor or bend over without having to hold the back waist in place, as I have to do with mid-rise jeans. I used to think that high-waisted jeans were really unflattering, but they're not any worse than any other rise, because I don't tuck my tops into jeans anyway. Back in December I got this pair and a pair of DKNY jeans (also high-waisted) for $8 altogether! And I found them within 5 minutes of entering the store! Since we had to get our clothes from thrift stores when I was a child, I formed the opinion that thrifted clothes were ugly, worn out, and hopelessly out of style (That was before I learned to sew of course). When I started having money to spend on myself I wouldn't even consider stepping foot in a thrift store, but that experience with the jeans has just about converted me.

Printed Lace and Boyfriends

Not talkin' about the male human type, the cuffed jeans and comfy sweater type!

And this jacket is actually a sweater with a notched collar and style lines. It almost looks like a blazer, but it's more flattering without being fitted and much easier to move around in. The lacey look and the hoop earrings add a touch of femininity.

I was wondering, do boyfriend jeans have an equivalent skirt? A boyfriend skirt- that just sounds weird, but you know what I mean. What sort of skirt can work in any sort of situation that a ultra-relaxed, worn-in, cuffed-at-just-the-right-length pair of  jeans does? If you were going to wear a skirt, what would you pair with this top and sweater?

And I'm so excited for this:

Ashley at Bramblewood Fashion is hosting a week-long fashion event based on a different era or genre every day. I've never seen most of the movies and shows she'll be referencing, but she says she hasn't seen all of them either; we can still look at the images and get inspiration from the fabulous TV and movie set wardrobes. Who else wants to join? It's gonna be fun!

From My Own Closet: Printed Tee and Fur Vest

Tee: Marshall's
Fur vest: Topshop via Plato's Closet
Jeans: Grane via Macy's
Shoes: Payless
Ring: Made by me
Earrings: Claire's

A basic tee and jeans outfit gets an upgrade! It has a touch of glam, but it's still easy to wear and comfy-casual. This is the last fur vest outfit I'll show you, promise! For this winter anyway...

From My Own Closet: Boho

 Vest: Topshop via Plato's Closet
Tunic: Made by me
Jeans: Loft Outlet
Boots: Don't even remember, DSW maybe

I adore this faux fur vest. I've been wearing it almost every day this week since winters are so short here and I want to get as much use out of it as I can! Probably how people in northern climates feel about their summer clothes? You will most likely be seeing more of it soon in any case.

Note to self: Get some close-ups next time and not just full-outfit ones. My gracious photographer (my little sis "K") is really quite talented, but it was a rather spontaneous and hurried photo shoot and she was getting cold. :) If she doesn't start a blog herself, I should post some of her adorable squirrel photos sometime.

Had a good weekend so far? I've mostly been cleaning the house. And along the way I learned way more about the inner workings of our vacuum cleaner than you all would care to hear right now. Fixing broken appliances, yard work, etc. has always been my dad's job at our house, but lately I've been purposely learning how to do different things in case I'm out on my own at some point or if I marry someone who expects me to do some of these things! (For some reason I get excited about this sort of thing. I've actually got a list. =) What are some of the things you all think every woman should know how to do herself?
